KBRN, Bengkulu: The Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) from the University of Bengkulu has proposed a community-based ecotourism project near the Seblat Nature Tourism Park (TWA) Elephant Training Center (PLG) in North Bengkulu Regency. The initiative aims to balance the conservation of Sumatran elephants with the economic empowerment of local communities.

Danur Seto, an academic from Bengkulu University and a research team member, explained that they are currently collaborating with the Bengkulu and Lampung Natural Resources Conservation Agency to develop the project.

"The primary goal of this ecotourism development is to conserve Sumatran elephants while positively impacting the local economy of villages surrounding the Seblat Elephant Training Center," said Danur, as quoted by rri.co.id. "By involving the community in managing the ecotourism, we hope to create jobs, small businesses, and environmentally friendly tourism activities."

The community-based ecotourism concept is seen as a sustainable solution that integrates the conservation of endangered species with community welfare.

Danur also emphasized the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders to realize this plan. "Collaboration between the Natural Resources Conservation Agency, provincial, district, and village administrations is essential for successfully implementing this ecotourism development. We hope that all parties can support this initiative to run smoothly and provide long-term benefits," he hoped.

The Seblat Wildlife Reserve Elephant Training Center, located in North Bengkulu Regency, is crucial for Sumatran elephant conservation.

This project is considered strategic to strengthen buffer villages' roles as conservation partners and ecotourism managers.

With the support of various parties, this ecotourism development is expected to protect Sumatran elephants and improve the welfare of communities living around the area. ***
