KBRN, Jakarta: A record-breaking 411,161 tourists visited the Kepulauan Seribu (Thousand Islands) in 2024, a significant increase from the previous year. The archipelago's pristine beaches, diverse marine life, and vibrant culture have made it a top destination for domestic and international travelers.

According to the Thousand Islands Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, the 411,161 visitors comprised 393,720 domestic tourists and 17,441 international travelers.

Thousand Islands Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Head Sonti Pangaribuan informed the media that the number of tourist visits in 2024 has increased compared to 2023, which recorded 404,845 visitors.

She attributed the surge in tourism to the improving post-pandemic economic conditions. "With the economy recovering, the Thousand Islands has once again become a popular destination, attracting more visitors throughout 2024," Santi said on Monday (Jan 13), as quoted by rri.co.id.

Sonti noted that most tourists were drawn to the inhabited islands in the North and South Thousand Islands subdistricts.

"There were 386,912 visits to inhabited islands, 17,929 went to resort islands, 5,243 explored tourist islands, and 1,077 ventured to conservation islands," she said.

The agency organized various events and music festivals throughout the year to further boost tourism and the local economy. "Thousand Islands Festival, folk entertainment stage, familiarization trips, tourist destination introductions, reggae music events, and others are conducted to attract tourists and boost the local economy of the Thousand Islands," said Sonti. ***
