RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Meydiana Laviola Reinnamah brought Balinese cultural heritage to the international stage after being selected as Indonesia’s flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, on Sunday, October 4.
The honor gave Meydiana an opportunity to represent Indonesia’s athletes while showcasing traditional Balinese attire to audiences across Asia, creating a memorable moment at the end of the country’s Asian Games campaign.
Meydiana led the Indonesian contingent’s parade at Paloma Mizuho Stadium wearing a distinctive outfit that combined national colors with Balinese craftsmanship. Her attire featured a red silk kebaya decorated with Prada Bali motifs, designed by senior fashion designer Ghea Panggabean, paired with a white Balinese songket woven sarong.
For Meydiana, carrying the Indonesian flag in front of the Asian sporting community was more than a ceremonial responsibility. She described it as the most historic moment of her athletic career.
“I am certainly very proud to represent Indonesia and carry the Red and White flag at the 2026 Asian Games closing ceremony. I am also proud to wear Balinese attire and introduce it to the world,” Meydiana said on Sunday, as quoted on the Indonesian Youth and Sports Ministry's official website.
She added that wearing traditional Balinese clothing in Indonesia’s national colors gave her an extraordinary sense of motivation and pride as a woman representing the country and its athletes.
Being chosen as a flag bearer at one of Asia’s largest sporting events has also given her renewed motivation to continue achieving success for Indonesia on the international stage. “I hope this opportunity will further motivate me to give my best for Indonesia in the future,” she said.
During the ceremony, Meydiana led a parade of 52 Indonesian athletes and officials representing five sports: judo, field hockey, tennis, archery and wrestling.
Other athletes wore matching white tracksuits featuring Limar Palembang motifs, while the Chef de Mission (CdM) team and athlete representatives wore silk shirts with Balinese songket patterns, complemented by traditional udeng headwear.
The closing ceremony marked the end of Indonesia’s campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. The Indonesian contingent finished with five gold, 11 silver and 23 bronze medals, meeting its overall medal target. ***
