Getting to Know General Ahmad Yani, the Revolutionary Hero Who Fell in G30S

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - General Ahmad Yani is one of the important figures in the history of Indonesia's struggle, known as the Minister/Chief Commander of the Army. He fell in the September 30 Movement of 1965 or G30S and was later designated as a Revolutionary Hero.

Ahmad Yani was born in Purworejo, Central Java, on June 19, 1922. His military career began during the Japanese occupation when he joined the Defenders of the Homeland (PETA) and received military education and training.

After Indonesia gained independence, Ahmad Yani was involved in various military operations to defend the independence. He led the troops in facing the British resistance in Magelang and successfully secured the area.

In the First Dutch Military Aggression, the troops led by Ahmad Yani were also involved in facing the Dutch attack in Temanggung, Central Java. His military capabilities then led to Ahmad Yani being entrusted with various important tasks in maintaining the security and integrity of Indonesia's territory.

Ahmad Yani was also assigned to suppress the Darul Islam/Indonesian Islamic Army rebellion. In that operation, he formed a special unit called the Banteng Raiders, which became one of the key forces in facing the rebellion.

Before his demise, Ahmad Yani was entrusted with the position of Minister/Chief Commander of the Army. On the night of September 30, 1965, a group of soldiers came to his residence in Jakarta. Ahmad Yani was then shot dead, and his body was found in Lubang Buaya area, East Jakarta, along with the bodies of several other Army officers.

General Ahmad Yani was then designated as a Revolutionary Hero for his services and dedication to the nation and the state. His life journey became an important part of Indonesia's struggle history, especially in defending independence and facing various threats to the nation's integrity.
