RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Sang Nila Utama Museum and Cultural Park preserves Malay history by serving as an important center for protecting local heritage in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. Originally opened as the Riau Provincial State Museum in 1994, it was later renamed in 2017 to honor a legendary Malay prince.

Inside the museum, visitors can explore over 4,000 items divided into categories like ethnograph (cultural artifacts), historica (historical documents), and ceramologica (ancient ceramics). These collections show how people lived in the region from prehistoric times up to the modern era.

The museum is officially classified as a General Museum of Type C, meaning it plays a vital role in regional education and public learning. It is owned by the provincial government and managed by the Riau Culture Office.

Its main mission is to protect regional treasures while supporting research, education, and public recreation. By displaying traditional Malay clothing, musical instruments, and ancient texts, it acts as a dynamic learning space for the community.

The name "Sang Nila Utama" comes from a powerful symbolic figure in Malay history who helped shape local cultural stories. This connection reminds visitors of the deep roots and rich traditions tied to eastern Sumatra.

Through its exhibitions, the museum helps strengthen cultural identity and gives young people a chance to connect with their roots. It functions as an interactive bridge between past generations and those of today.

The museum is officially registered in the National Museum Database, connecting it to a nationwide network of cultural institutions. This official status helps ensure that Riau's unique history is safely preserved for future generations to study and enjoy.
