RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Adityawarman Museum preserves Minangkabau cultural heritage as a vital general museum located in Padang, West Sumatra. Officially registered under national registration number 13.71.U.03.0008, it stands as a cornerstone for local history and traditional preservation.

Named after a prominent 14th-century king who once ruled central Sumatra, the museum honors his historical legacy. Situated on Jalan Diponegoro, the museum has served as a cultural hub since its construction began in the 1970s.

Classified as a Type B general museum, the site was officially inaugurated on March 16, 1977, by the Minister of Education and Culture. It houses roughly 278 registered collections, spanning ethnographic, historical, and archaeological artifacts that represent regional identity.

Managed operationally by the West Sumatra Cultural Office, the museum functions as a regional technical implementation unit. Its diverse collection includes traditional clothing, ancient weaponry, and traditional technological items reflecting local heritage.

Guided by a clear vision, the museum strives to be an educational, recreational, and attractive cultural tourism destination. Its mission focuses on conserving historical items and effectively communicating Minangkabau history to the general public.

As part of the broader Indonesian Museum network, the museum actively contributes to national cultural awareness and research. It provides students, academics, and tourists with a comprehensive space for historical learning and discovery.

Ultimately, the museum transcends its role as a mere storage facility for historical items by fostering community engagement. Through its ongoing exhibitions and educational programs, it strengthens the historical identity of the archipelago within West Sumatra.
