RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Batak TB Silalahi Center Museum successfully unites six distinct Batak groups in North Sumatra through its comprehensive cultural preservation efforts. Located in Balige, this remarkable institution serves as a powerful bridge connecting contemporary generations with their ancestral roots.

Established under the Tiopan Bernhard Silalahi Foundation on August 7, 2006, the non-profit organization officially opened its doors to the public on April 17, 2008. Its core vision focuses on elevating the dignity and quality of life through the excellence of traditional cultural values.

Initially, the foundation housed two main sections within a single building dedicated to Batak culture and the personal biography of Dr. TB Silalahi. To expand its reach, a specialized building dedicated entirely to Batak artifacts was later constructed and inaugurated on January 18, 2011, by Former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

This expansion specifically aimed to bring together the rich heritages of the Toba, Simalungun, Pakpak, Mandailing, Angkola, and Karo communities. Today, visitors can explore authentic artifacts meticulously gathered from all six of these vibrant Batak subgroups.

Beyond the artifact exhibitions, the complex features the Personal Museum of TB Silalahi alongside traditional ancient Batak houses at Huta Batak. The indoor Batak Museum houses 1,010 items, complemented by 49 outdoor collections situated across the scenic grounds.

Meanwhile, the TB Silalahi Footsteps Museum preserves an extensive archive consisting of 2,648 indoor items and 5 outdoor pieces. Visitors seeking further information can contact the management at Pagar Batu Street Number 88, Balige, Toba Samosir Regency, or via their official website.

Through its continuous dedication to heritage preservation, the institution remains a vital educational landmark for local and international tourists alike. Visitors are encouraged to experience this cultural sanctuary firsthand to fully appreciate the deep historical legacy of the Batak people.

Local authorities and tourism boards continue to collaborate with the foundation to promote the museum as a premier cultural destination in the region. Upcoming programs are expected to feature live traditional performances and interactive heritage workshops for visiting students and researchers.
