RRI.CO.ID, North Sipora - 7 Palms, also known as Ulars or Seven Palms, is a left-hand reef break on the western coast of Sipora Island, Mentawai Islands. The spot offers long, clean walls and relatively quiet sessions, making it an appealing option for intermediate and advanced surfers.

7 Palms produces fun, down-the-line waves that can stretch for up to 200 yards when conditions align. The long walls give surfers plenty of room to maintain speed, practice carving maneuvers, and connect several sections during a single ride.

The spot works particularly well when the waves reach shoulder to head height. Under these conditions, surfers can find manageable walls with enough speed for turns, while occasional sections may form short barrels when the swell arrives at the right angle.

7 Palms can also handle larger waves, with conditions reaching around double overhead. Although the spot does not always produce its best waves, it provides a useful alternative when the main surf breaks around the Mentawai Islands receive less swell.

South to southwest swells generally provide suitable conditions, while west swells can approach the reef at a favorable angle. Easterly to northeasterly winds can create cleaner wave faces, and mid to high tides generally improve the shape over the coral reef.

The break operates throughout the year, although April to October often brings more consistent surfing conditions across the Mentawai Islands. Surfers can also check the spot when nearby breaks such as Scarecrows become crowded or conditions there do not suit their preferred session.

Surfers can enter the lineup through a channel that provides a clearer route across the reef. However, the coral becomes more exposed during lower tides, so surfers should pay close attention to their entry and exit points and changing water levels.

The remote location means surfers should prepare carefully before heading into the water. Coral reefs can cause injuries, while currents may become stronger during larger swells, and access to immediate medical assistance remains limited.

Surfers can reach Sipora Island from Padang before continuing toward 7 Palms by boat or local transportation. Its location near other surf breaks allows visitors to explore several waves in the area while enjoying the tropical landscape of the Mentawai Islands.

With its long left-hand walls, occasional barrel sections, and relatively uncrowded lineup, 7 Palms gives surfers an enjoyable alternative for exploring the diverse breaks of North Sipora.
