RRI.CO.ID, North Sipora - Tikus, also known as The Rat, is a mellow left-hand reef break near the northern tip of Sipora Island, Mentawai Islands. Its manageable waves and relatively quiet lineup make the spot suitable for beginners, families, and surfers looking for a relaxed session.

Located a short walk from Aloita Resort, Tikus provides easy access to a fun and rippable left-hand wave. During the main surfing season, the waves often remain around shoulder height or smaller, creating comfortable conditions for surfers who are still developing their skills.

The break features several sections that can produce clean and fast-peeling waves. Surfers can use the different sections to practice positioning, turns, and wave selection without facing the intensity found at some of the larger reef breaks around the Mentawai Islands.

Tikus can also handle larger swells, when the normally mellow wave becomes more powerful. Bigger conditions can produce steeper drops, faster sections, and occasional barrels that give more experienced surfers opportunities to perform critical maneuvers.

The spot works with different tide conditions and can remain surfable throughout the tidal cycle. Southwest to west swells generally provide suitable wave energy, while south to southeast winds can create cleaner conditions around the break.

The main surfing season runs from April to October, when the Mentawai Islands receive more consistent swell patterns. Tikus can also serve as an alternative when larger surf makes other nearby breaks too demanding, particularly because the wave tends to maintain a more manageable character.

Surfers usually reach Tikus by boat, with trips available from the surrounding resort area. Because the break sits over coral reef, surfers should pay attention when entering and exiting the water, especially during lower tides when more of the reef becomes exposed.

The reef can cause cuts or other injuries, while changing currents may make positioning more difficult. Surfers should check the conditions before paddling out and consider appropriate protective gear when necessary.

Its relatively small crowds add to the relaxed atmosphere around Tikus. Typically with fewer than 10 surfers in the lineup, visitors can enjoy more space to practice while experiencing the tropical scenery of the Mentawai Islands.

Tikus combines approachable waves, a quiet setting, and the suitability for various surfing abilities. The spot provides an ideal option for learners while still offering more challenging sections when larger swells reach North Sipora.
