RRI.CO.ID, Nias - Rockstar Point offers intermediate surfers fast right-hand waves that break over a coral reef. The surf spot lies near Botohilitano Village, just north of the main break at Lagundri Bay.
Rockstar Point provides an alternative when Lagundri Bay becomes crowded or conditions there become less favorable. The area has a relaxed atmosphere, with quiet roads, open fields, and local residents living near the shore.
The wave forms a rippable wall when the swell direction, wind, and tide create favorable conditions. Although shorter and less powerful than Sorake Right, Rockstar can produce enjoyable rides with enough space for several maneuvers.
The spot works best with southwest to south-southwest swells measuring around four to eight feet. Light easterly or southeasterly winds and mid tides generally provide a good balance between wave shape and reef depth.
When the swell arrives at the right angle, the wave can run through three or four sections for multiple turns. Surfers can occasionally find a short barrel near the takeoff before the wave continues along the reef.
Rockstar remains more tide-sensitive than some other surf spots around Nias. Lower tides can expose the shallow reef and make the wave unpredictable, while higher tides can make the wave softer and less defined.
Surfers can paddle out through an entry area near the main headland and use a side channel toward the lineup. Returning to shore is generally manageable between sets, although the inside section requires greater caution.
From Sorake, surfers can reach Rockstar Point in around 10 to 15 minutes by scooter along the coast. Local surf camps and guides can provide directions, while visitors should bring water and snacks because the spot has no facilities.
The inside section contains sharp coral heads and sea urchins, particularly when the tide drains over the reef. Clean-up sets can also become hazardous during stronger swells, while the area has no lifeguard or dedicated safety support.
