Parapuar Blends Forest Conservation with Panoramic Labuan Bajo Views

RRI.CO.ID, Labuan Bajo - Parapuar is a developing tourism destination that combines forest conservation with panoramic views of Labuan Bajo. Developed by the Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority, its name comes from the Manggarai words “Para,” meaning gate, and “Puar,” meaning forest.

The name reflects the destination’s emphasis on environmental sustainability and its close connection with the surrounding forest. Parapuar is located within Nggorang Bowosie, a production forest whose natural character the development seeks to preserve.

Development at Parapuar follows an integrated, holistic, and sustainable approach known as 3ECNC. The concept combines ethnic, ecological, educational, and cultural values with efforts to maintain the area’s natural environment.

Every attraction developed at Parapuar, whether natural, social, cultural, or man-made, is designed with ecological and social balance in mind. Local-style facilities are incorporated into the natural landscape to create amenities that remain connected with the destination’s environmental character.

Located on elevated terrain above Labuan Bajo, Parapuar provides sweeping 360-degree views of the surrounding area. From its vantage points, visitors can see the city, nearby islands, hills, and other elements of the landscape from a single setting.

The destination is also known for its views during both sunrise and sunset. After nightfall, visitors can enjoy the glow of Labuan Bajo’s city lights or observe the star-filled sky, while the elevated setting also supports camping activities.

Parapuar offers more than panoramic views, with a hidden cave and natural spring adding to its natural attractions. Visitors can take part in activities including trekking, bird watching, yoga, glamping, and cave exploration.

The destination is envisioned as a cultural landmark representing Manggarai and the wider East Nusa Tenggara region. Events held at Parapuar have attracted up to 2,000 visitors, highlighting its growing role as a tourism and cultural venue.

Two areas are currently open to visitors, namely Natas Parapuar at around 238 meters and Taman Parapuar at 184 meters above sea level. Both locations are only a short distance from Komodo Airport and central Labuan Bajo, making Parapuar an accessible destination for travelers exploring the area.
