Alor Showcases Marine Wonders and Rich Cultural Heritage

RRI.CO.ID, Alor – Alor Regency is an island destination in East Nusa Tenggara known for its rich marine life and cultural heritage. Kalabahi serves as its capital, while the regency covers 2,928.88 square kilometers and is home to around 211,872 residents.

Formed by an archipelago of islands, Alor lies along an international trade shipping route toward the Pacific Ocean. Its strategic maritime position has connected the region with wider trade networks and contributed to its diverse cultural influences.

Alor is one of 11 regencies under the coordination of the Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority for integrated tourism development. Together with Flores, Lembata, and Bima, the destinations are promoted as part of the Floratama tourism region.

The regency has a tropical savanna climate, with a relatively short rainy season from December to March. Its dry season lasts more than seven months, with temperatures ranging from 21 to 33 degrees Celsius and average humidity of around 74 percent.

Alor’s dry climate complements its diverse natural landscapes, from coastal areas to hills and other terrestrial scenery. The combination of land and sea environments creates varied experiences for travelers exploring the regency.

Underwater, Alor is known for colorful coral gardens and marine biodiversity that attract divers from around the world. Encounters with marine animals such as dugongs and thresher sharks add to the appeal of its waters.

Beyond its natural attractions, Alor preserves distinctive cultural traditions and historical heritage. Traditional Moko culture, mountain communities, and a Quran manuscript regarded as one of Southeast Asia’s oldest reflect the depth of the regency’s cultural legacy.
