RRI.CO.ID, Makassar – Masjid 99 Kubah, or 99-Dome Mosque, has become one of South Sulawesi's most distinctive modern religious tourism landmarks. Located within the Center Point of Indonesia reclamation area along Losari Beach, the mosque combines Islamic symbolism, contemporary architecture, and coastal scenery.
Designed by architect Ridwan Kamil and inaugurated in 2022, the mosque immediately attracted attention through its futuristic and colorful design. Its striking architecture has since made the landmark a popular destination for visitors exploring Makassar.
The mosque takes its name from its 99 domes, which represent the 99 names of Allah known as Asmaul Husna in Islamic tradition. This symbolism is incorporated into the building's design, giving its architecture a deeper spiritual meaning.
Red, orange, and yellow dominate the mosque's exterior, creating a vibrant contrast against the surrounding coastal landscape. The main structure covers approximately 72 by 45 meters, providing a spacious setting for worshippers and visitors.
Its expansive interior can accommodate tens of thousands of worshippers at once during major religious occasions. Intricate ornaments and Islamic calligraphy further enrich the interior, creating a grand yet peaceful atmosphere.
Beyond its role as a place of worship, Masjid 99 Kubah has developed into an important religious tourism attraction in Makassar. Visitors can appreciate its distinctive architecture while experiencing a landmark closely connected with the city's modern coastal development.
The mosque's location along Losari Beach adds another attraction for visitors, particularly around sunset. The colorful domes create a striking silhouette against the evening sky, offering memorable views for photography and sightseeing.
Its presence also complements Makassar's growing modern cityscape while maintaining a strong connection with Islamic heritage. The combination of religious symbolism, contemporary design, and waterfront scenery gives the mosque a distinctive identity.
For travelers exploring Makassar, Masjid 99 Kubah offers an experience that extends beyond conventional sightseeing. The landmark brings together architecture, spirituality, and coastal beauty in one of South Sulawesi's most recognizable destinations.
