RRI.CO.ID, Banda Aceh - The rich cultural heritage of Gampong Wisata Nusa in Lhoknga Subdistrict, Aceh Besar Regency, has become a major draw for international tourists seeking authentic community‑based experiences.
During an official visit on Sunday, September 13, 2026, Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Luh Enik Ermawati observed foreign visitors--particularly from Malaysia--taking part in daily activities and cultural demonstrations. Although the village does not feature natural attractions such as beaches or waterfalls, its strong cultural identity attracts around 500 tourists per month.
Visitors engage in hands‑on activities including traditional palm weaving, Acehnese cooking, and local performance arts such as the Ratoh Jaroe dance. Community routines also serve as an additional attraction for tourists.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the village’s cultural strength is its main appeal. “This is my first time here, observing the tourist experience firsthand, including visitors from Malaysia who truly enjoyed it,” she said in Lhoknga, Aceh Besar, on Sunday, as quoted by Antara.
She noted that some may assume a tourism village must offer beaches or waterfalls, but Gampong Wisata Nusa demonstrates that cultural heritage can be a powerful attraction. “This village has strong cultural assets that draw up to 500 tourists per month,” she said.
To support continued growth, the Ministry of Tourism will strengthen collaboration with local and provincial administrations. The ministry will also provide human resource training, improve village infrastructure, and promote top‑performing destinations through the Wonderful Indonesia Award, which includes categories for outstanding tourism villages.
The ministry will continue enhancing human resource quality, expanding promotional channels, and strengthening attractions to increase tourist arrivals. Officials believe that sustained collaboration and support will boost visitor numbers and generate economic benefits across sectors. ***
