Tolu Liang Cave Combines Natural Beauty and History

RRI.CO.ID, Penajam Paser Utara - Tolu Liang Cave combines striking limestone formations with historical stories in East Kalimantan. Located in Lebangka Village, Penajam Paser Utara, the natural destination offers an experience for travelers interested in nature and history.

The cave stretches approximately 300 meters, with an average width of 15 meters and a height of 10 meters. Its interior consists of three main chambers, each offering different atmospheres and natural features.

The first chamber is spacious and relatively bright, while the second is darker and narrower. The third chamber is spacious and features naturally formed stalactites and stalagmites in various shapes and colors.

Stalactites hang from the cave ceiling, while stalagmites rise from its floor through natural limestone deposits. These formations develop over thousands of years through the deposition of water containing calcium carbonate.

Some formations resemble elephants, dragons, lions, turtles, and flowers, creating distinctive shapes throughout the cave. Several clear natural pools also add to the cave's appeal, offering visitors places to enjoy the surrounding environment.

Tolu Liang also has historical significance connected to Indonesia's struggle against Dutch colonial forces. Its name comes from the Banjar language and refers to the cave's three entrances.

The third entrance was reportedly used by Indonesian fighters as a hiding place and training area during the struggle. Traces of bullets and firearms inside the cave are described as reminders of that period.

The cave also holds cultural and religious significance among local communities. Tolu Liang provides visitors with an opportunity to experience natural formations while exploring stories connected to Indonesia's local history.
