Jogja Fashion Carnival Showcases Indonesia’s Cultural Creativity

RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - Jogja Fashion Carnival 2026 showcased Indonesia’s cultural diversity through creative fashion and performances. The annual event took place along Malioboro, Yogyakarta, on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

The carnival brought together fashion, traditional culture, performing arts, communities, and tourism in one public performance. Organized by the Yogyakarta Tourism Office, it was part of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day celebrations.

Representing the Governor of Yogyakarta, Regional Secretary Ni Made Dwipanti Indrayanti officially opened the carnival. She said Yogyakarta allows cultural traditions and creativity to develop together.

Ni Made said the carnival provides a space for designers, artists, artisans, young people, communities, and society. She said the event allows cultural wealth to develop through new creative works.

“Therefore, Jogja Fashion Carnival becomes a space for creation and expression, where ideas from designers, artists, artisans, young people, communities, and various elements of society come together. In this space, imagination finds its stage, skills receive appreciation, and cultural wealth gains new possibilities to develop,” Ni Made said.

The carnival carried the theme “Hangrengkuh Sesotya Tuhu,” meaning “Embracing the True Precious Heart.” The theme reflects efforts to preserve Yogyakarta’s cultural values while encouraging creativity and modern development.

Head of the Yogyakarta Tourism Office, Atik Sudarmi, said the event combines art, culture, and fashion through creative costume parades. She added that the carnival promotes Yogyakarta as a center of culture and creativity.

“Rooted in the spirit of Yogyakarta as a center of culture and creativity, this event aims to bring Yogyakarta to life as a vibrant, educational, and inspiring visual performance arena,” she said.

Jogja Fashion Carnival 2026 featured 19 curated groups from Yogyakarta and other Indonesian regions. Participants wore elaborate costumes using traditional Yogyakarta lurik fabric, combined with elements reflecting the carnival’s themes.

The organizers expect the carnival to increase domestic and international tourist visits to Yogyakarta. They also hope the event will promote local fashion, cultural attractions, and tourism while creating wider economic benefits.
