RRI.CO.ID, Lumajang - Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) in East Java, officially reopened for tourism on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 00.01 local time, allowing full access through the Lumajang Regency entry route following the extinction of a 13-day forest fire.

The reopening was authorized under Announcement No. PG.19/T.8/TU/HMS.01.07/B/08/2026 issued by Head of TNBTS Center Rudijanta Tiahia Nugraha. Extinguishing the fire required an integrated task force comprising the Ministry of Forestry, TNBTS Center, Manggala Agni fire crews, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), local disaster agencies (BPBD), TNI, National Police, local volunteers, and regional administrations.

Joint teams completed cooling, sweeping, and monitoring procedures to verify no remaining embers posed flare-up risks before evaluating visitor safety protocols to resume economic and tourism activities across Lumajang and surrounding regencies.

National park authorities and disaster mitigation leads emphasized that restoring tourism access must be balanced with strict adherence to conservation guidelines and fire prevention rules. TNBTS Rudijanta detailed visitor safety requirements for the reopened conservation area.

"With the reopening of the Bromo area starting August 20, 2026, tourists can once again plan their visits, including through the Lumajang region, while continuing to prioritize safety, comply with conservation regulations, and jointly protect Bromo's preservation," Rudijanta said in a press release, as quoted by Infopublik.id.

He stressed that visitors and tour operators must follow field officers' instructions and strictly avoid fire hazards, including open campfires, improper cigarette disposal, or leaving ignition sources unattended in the national park. ***
