House Promotes Guidelines for the Wiseful Use of AI on Campus

RRI.CO.ID, Tigaraksa – Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) member Bramantyo Suwondo, said that artificial intelligence (AI) development on university campuses requires guidelines for responsible and ethical use. This is important to ensure AI remains beneficial without diminishing students’ cognitive abilities and creativity.

"One of the things discussed was how AI should be used wisely on campus. That is what Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) wants: some kind of guidance on the use of AI," Bramantyo said after a specific working visit by the DPR’s Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) to UMN in Tangerang, Banten, on Monday, September 28, 2026.

He said AI technology can, on the one hand, improve work effectiveness and efficiency and accelerate the analytical process. On the other hand, if used without limits, the technology could potentially reduce the critical thinking abilities of the younger generation.

"As we know, AI, on the one hand, provides effectiveness and efficiency in work and also increasingly accelerates analysis, but on the other hand, it reduces the cognitive abilities of our young people," Bramantyo said, as quoted by dpr.go.id on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

"What we want is to gain the benefits of the AI world while ensuring that students understand that AI must be used wisely," he conveyed.

He expressed his appreciation for the input from UMN’s academic community, which he said would provide important input for the BKSAP AI Working Committee. Collaboration between the DPR RI and universities is expected to produce legislation that not only promotes technological advancement but also addresses challenges and creates fairness for the public.

“On the one hand, we want the AI industry and technology to continue developing, but on the other hand, there must be safeguards for society," he said.
