RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) Marine Corps now has 12 M-35 Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAVs) made in the United States. The vehicles are designed to support troop movements from sea to shore and onto land.

The AAV-M35 is a troop carrier capable of operating across various terrains, including water, beaches, and land. It is equipped with tracked wheels to support mobility across all three environments.

According to the official Marine Corps statement, the AAV-M35 can carry up to 24 personnel, consisting of 21 passengers and three crew members. The three crew members serve as the driver, commander, and weapons operator.

The AAV-M35 is also capable of operating at sea under Sea State 5 conditions, with wave heights of approximately 2.5 to 4 meters. The M35 designation refers to M for Marinir, the Indonesian term for Marines, 3 for the number of crew members, and 5 for its Sea State 5 capability.

For mobility, the AAV-M35 is powered by a Cummins V930 engine producing 525 horsepower. The engine enables the vehicle to reach speeds of up to 15 kilometers per hour in water and 75 kilometers per hour on land.

The armored vehicle can also be equipped with a 12.7-millimeter machine gun and a 40-millimeter automatic grenade launcher. The AAV-M35 weighs approximately 23 tons and measures 7.94 meters long, 3.27 meters wide, and 3.26 meters high.

With these capabilities, the AAV-M35 can support a range of amphibious operations. The vehicle can transport troops from Landing Platform Dock (LPD) vessels to offshore areas, support troop movements from the shoreline onto land, and help personnel navigate difficult terrain on land.
