Indonesia-India Strengthen Cooperation in Telecommunications Technology

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and India are strengthening cooperation in telecommunications technology and services through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement provides a framework for both countries to develop telecommunications technology and strengthen the digital ecosystem.

The cooperation follows discussions on the Joint Leaders’ Statement during the Indian Prime Minister’s state visit to Indonesia, where he was received by President Prabowo Subianto. Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid and Indian Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia agreed to the MoU, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to building equal and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Meutya said the cooperation would not only focus on developing existing technologies, but also on advancing next-generation technologies. Joint research and development will cover 4G and 5G technologies, explore 6G, and include future technologies such as quantum technology and advanced wireless communications.

“Indonesia wants to ensure that digital transformation enables our people to master, develop, and create the technologies of the future. Cooperation with India is one of the strategic avenues to strengthen that capacity,” Meutya said in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

According to Meutya, mastery of telecommunications technology is becoming increasingly important as demand grows for fast, reliable, and resilient connectivity. Cooperation with India is expected to provide opportunities for knowledge exchange, human resource development, and innovation, strengthening both countries’ capacity to respond to global technological developments.

The cooperation also covers strengthening communication systems for disaster management. Indonesia and India will explore the development of emergency communication systems and disaster risk reduction solutions to maintain telecommunications services during crises and natural disasters.

The implementation of the cooperation will include training, upskilling and reskilling programs, as well as research and development involving academics and industry. Opportunities will also be open to technology and telecommunications companies from both countries through business-to-business (B2B) partnerships and public-private partnerships (PPP).

“The partnership between Indonesia and India must deliver concrete benefits to the public. We want this cooperation to create more opportunities for Indonesian talent, researchers, and industries to participate in technology development,” she explained.
