RRI.CO.ID, Semarang - An Indonesian elementary school student gained international recognition after identifying a security vulnerability in one of NASA's systems. The achievement was highlighted in Semarang on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
Fourth-grader Ibrahim Al Abrar of SD Negeri 3 Genengsari, Boyolali, received a Letter of Recognition from NASA. Indonesian Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi later presented him with a laptop to support his cybersecurity studies.
During the meeting, Luthfi asked Ibrahim about his future ambitions. Ibrahim shared his dream of pursuing a career in cybersecurity.
“I want to become a cybersecurity professional,” Ibrahim said.
Luthfi praised Ibrahim's dedication to learning coding and cybersecurity independently from an early age. He said young talents like Ibrahim deserve continued support to achieve global success.
Ibrahim discovered a broken link hijacking vulnerability within a system covered by NASA's Vulnerability Disclosure Policy (VDP). He responsibly reported the issue, and NASA's security team verified the finding before issuing official recognition.
The recognition letter was dated July 9, 2026, acknowledging Ibrahim's contribution to improving NASA's cybersecurity. He spent six days validating the vulnerability, working three to four hours daily.
Speaking about his future, Ibrahim said he hopes to continue improving his abilities. He also wants to build a stronger portfolio in cybersecurity.
“I hope I can continue improving and build my portfolio for the future,” he said.
Ibrahim learned coding independently through online resources, YouTube, digital communities, and guidance from his father, a vocational school computer teacher. He previously received recognition after identifying a security vulnerability in the Lampung Provincial Government's system.
The Indonesian Central Java Government also provided educational equipment, while a junior high school awarded Ibrahim a scholarship. Officials hope the support encourages him to continue developing his cybersecurity skills and represent Indonesia internationally.
