RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s junior badminton squad secured a hard‑fought ticket to the quarterfinals of the 2026 Suhandinata Cup (BWF World Junior Team Championships) after overcoming Taiwan in a tense Group C play‑off at Cairo International Stadium, Egypt, on Tuesday, October 6.

The young Garuda team battled through a nail‑biting contest before clinching a 2‑1 victory, with aggregate scores of 54‑55, 55‑50, and 55‑48, according to BWF records. The result sets up Indonesia’s quarterfinal clash at the same venue on Wednesday, October 7.

Taiwan struck first in the opening tie, as mixed doubles pair Lin Sheng‑Ming/Chen Hsin Tung defeated Indonesia’s Moses Andar Simanjuntak/Yulianti Reya Azzahra 11‑8. The momentum continued when Yih Chung‑Hsiang outplayed Joe Fardhan Rainanda in the men’s singles, stretching Taiwan’s lead to 22‑17.

Indonesia clawed back through Jolin Angelia, who toppled Xiao‑Ting Su in the women’s singles, before men’s doubles duo Raihan Daffa Edsel Pramono/Anju Siahaan edged Chen Ping Hsuan/Lee Wei Ting to briefly turn the tide. Yet Taiwan regained control in the deciding women’s doubles, with Chen Tung Hsin/Sun Ching Liang edging Candani Atresia Naufa/Putri Syakira Aurelia 55‑54 to secure the first game and a 1‑0 lead.

The second game saw Indonesia rally. Simanjuntak and Azzahra struck back in mixed doubles, Rainanda leveled the men’s singles, and contributions from Angelia, Pramono/Siahaan, and Naufa/Aurelia sealed a 55‑50 win to tie the match at 1‑1.

In the deciding third game, Taiwan again opened with a mixed doubles win, but Indonesia’s resilience shone through. Rainanda, Angelia, Pramono/Siahaan, and Naufa/Aurelia combined to overturn the deficit, clinching the final 55‑48 and sealing a 2‑1 triumph.

With this spirited comeback, Indonesia’s juniors now stand among the last eight, keeping alive their hopes of a deeper run in Cairo. ***
