Mitchell Baker Finishes as Top Scorer of FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia striker Mitchell Baker finished as the top scorer of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 with five goals. His achievement came as Indonesia secured its first tournament title after defeating Thailand in the final on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Baker scored all five goals during Indonesia’s 9-2 victory over Bangladesh in the final Group A match. His goals helped Indonesia secure a place in the final through its superior goal difference over Malaysia.

The five-goal tally placed Baker at the top of the tournament scoring chart ahead of several regional strikers. Malaysia forward Bergson finished second with four goals, followed by Philippines forward Bjorn Martin Kristensen with three.

Baker did not add another goal against Thailand in the final despite playing throughout the 120-minute match. Indonesia eventually drew 2-2 before winning 4-2 through a penalty shootout to claim the championship.

The 19-year-old striker made his senior Indonesia debut on July 27, 2026, and immediately made an impact. He scored a hat-trick against Cambodia as Indonesia secured a 5-1 victory in the group stage.

Baker later delivered his biggest scoring performance against Bangladesh during Indonesia’s final Group A match. His fifth goal arrived in the 97th minute, completing his five-goal haul in Indonesia’s emphatic victory.

The performance brought Baker’s international tally to nine goals for Indonesia after eight appearances for the national team. His scoring record has quickly made him one of Indonesia’s notable attacking players during the tournament.

Before the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, Baker had already scored four goals for Indonesia during his early international appearances. His additional five goals against Bangladesh ultimately earned him the tournament’s Golden Boot award.

Baker’s individual achievement complemented Indonesia’s successful campaign in the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup. Indonesia also had Romeny finish as the tournament’s leading assist provider with four assists.
