RRI.CO.ID, Bintan - As the Indofood Bintan Triathlon 2026 approaches—scheduled for October 2–4, 2026—preparations are already visible across the Bintan Resorts area. Registration, which closed on September 17, 2026, recorded 583 participants from 32 countries set to compete in this year’s event, centered at Lagoi Bay within the world-class Bintan Resorts tourism area on Bintan Island, Riau Islands Province.
International participants account for 60% of the total registrants, while the remaining 40% hail from Indonesia. Among the international contingent, Singapore, France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Australia represent the top five nations by number of participants, bringing together triathlon communities from across the globe to Bintan.
Athletes will compete in a range of categories, including Olympic, Sprint, Relay, Duathlon, Youth, Kids, Splash & Dash, and Family Duo.
"This year, attention is also focused on the participation of Rashif Amila Yaqin and Martina Ayu Pratiwi—two Indonesian triathletes and SEA Games medalists—who will be competing in the Indofood Bintan Triathlon. They will be joined by participants from various triathlon communities such as Tribuddies, Metasport, SEBAYA, and Triathlon Sumatera Selatan, as well as the Indonesian Triathlon Federation (Riau Islands chapter)," said Raja Azmizal Usman, Lead Coordinator of the Indofood Bintan Triathlon 2026.
According to a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the triathlon course takes participants swimming in the waters of Lagoi Bay Beach, cycling through the roads of the Bintan Resorts integrated resort area, and finally running around Lagoi Bay. This blend of the race's inherent challenge and Bintan’s tropical landscape embodies the spirit of "Where Challenge Meets Paradise"—the theme championed by the Indofood Bintan Triathlon.
The Bintan Triathlon’s journey spanning over two decades reflects Bintan Resorts' steadfast commitment to developing sports tourism on Bintan Island. Sustaining an event for decades requires operational readiness as well as continuous support from various stakeholders.
"The Bintan Triathlon has evolved significantly over the past 21 years. Maintaining the event’s continuity for so long would certainly not have been possible without the collaboration and sustained support of the organizers—Bintan Resorts and TriFactor—the Riau Islands Provincial Government, the Bintan Regency Government, sponsors, and everyone working behind the scenes," Chief Operating Officer of Bintan Resorts , Abdul Wahab said.
This year, approximately 450 individuals—comprising medical staff, security personnel, and operational staff—will be involved over a three-day period to ensure the smooth and successful execution of the Indofood Bintan Triathlon 2026. The presence of participants, companions, visitors, and staff not only impacts the event itself but also stimulates various sectors of the local tourism and economy.
"We anticipate that this activity will generate a significant economic impact throughout the event, spanning accommodation, food and beverage, transportation, rental services, equipment procurement, and entertainment, among other services. This demonstrates that sports tourism holds great potential to drive economic activity while simultaneously enhancing Bintan's appeal as a tourism destination," Head of the Bintan Regency Culture and Tourism Office, Arief Sumarsono said
