RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s women’s sepak takraw quad team sealed a place in the semifinals of the Aichi–Nagoya 2026 Asian Games after a hard‑fought victory over Malaysia in their final Group B match on Thursday, October 1.

The Merah Putih squad overcame a shaky start, dropping the opening set, before rallying to defeat their regional rivals in three sets: 16–17, 15–11, 15–12. The tense encounter unfolded at Mizuho Park Gymnasium in Nagoya.

“We need to increase our training focus on the quad format. So far, we’ve spent about 70 percent of our time on the regu and only 30 percent on the quad. That showed today when we struggled at the start,” said team captain Dini Mita Sari after the match, as quoted by Antara.

Indonesia fell behind early in the first set and, despite a spirited chase, failed to capitalize on late scoring opportunities, allowing Malaysia to edge ahead. Dini admitted her team was not fully settled in the opener.

“We weren’t warmed up yet, and our rhythm followed theirs. Skill‑wise, we’re stronger, but unfortunately, we got pulled into their tempo at the beginning,” she explained.

Indonesia fielded teams in both the men’s and women’s quad events. The women’s squad now joins the men’s team, which had already secured a semifinal berth after sweeping all three of their group matches. Before defeating Malaysia, the women’s team also recorded wins over Laos and host nation Japan.

With both squads advancing unbeaten from the group stage, confidence is high that Indonesia can deliver strong results in sepak takraw at the Aichi–Nagoya Games. Athletes and coaches alike are optimistic the twin successes will translate into medals for the Red‑and‑White contingent. ***
