Indonesia's Janice Tjen to Partner Venus Williams at Guangzhou Open

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen will gain an opportunity to compete alongside seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams when the pair make their women’s doubles debut at the Guangzhou Open 2026 in China from October 26 to November 1, 2026.

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) confirmed that Williams will partner with Tjen in the tournament, giving the Indonesian player a chance to share the court with one of the most accomplished players in tennis history.

"The seven-time Grand Slam champion will compete in Asia for the first time since Tianjin in 2019. She will compete in the women’s doubles alongside Indonesian player Janice Tjen," WTA wrote on its website on Tuesday, September 29.

The Guangzhou Open will mark the first time Williams and Tjen have played together as a women’s doubles pair.

Williams, 46, previously partnered with her younger sister Serena Williams, 45, at the 2026 US Open and Cincinnati Open. The sisters were eliminated in the first round of both tournaments.

Tjen also competed in doubles at the 2026 US Open and Monterrey Open, partnering Leylah Fernandez and Katarzyna Piter, respectively, Antara reported.

Tjen/Fernandez went further at the 2026 US Open, reaching the round of 16, while Venus/Serena were eliminated in the opening round.

Fernandez also provides a connection between Tjen and Williams. She partnered with Williams at the 2025 US Open, where they reached the quarterfinals before losing 1-6, 2-6 to Katerina Siniakova/Taylor Townsend.

Venus Williams and Fernandez also played together at the Miami Open in March 2026 but were eliminated in the first round.

At the 2026 Guangzhou Open, Williams will compete as a wild-card entrant in both the singles and women’s doubles events. ***
