Erick Thohir Monitors Indonesia’s Preparation Ahead of Malaysia Clash

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Chairman of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), Erick Thohir, personally observed the Indonesian national football team’s training session ahead of their second Group A match against Malaysia in the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta on Monday, 28 September 2026.

Erick arrived at the PTIK Stadium in Jakarta on Sunday, 27 September 2026. Wearing a red jacket, he watched the training session from the stands, accompanied by PSSI Secretary General, Yunus Nusi, and Head of the National Team Agency (BTN), Sumardji.

All 23 Indonesian national team players took part in the training session. The session proceeded smoothly, beginning with warm-ups before moving on to tactical preparations under the coaching staff.

Erick Thohir attended the session to motivate the players ahead of the important match against Malaysia. Both Indonesia and Malaysia secured victories in their opening Group A matches.

Malaysia currently leads Group A on goal difference. As a result, the second match is crucial for both teams as they compete for the top spot in the group.

Indonesian national team head coach John Herdman said the team was in good condition, with high energy and enthusiasm ahead of the match.

“This is a decisive match. Games like this always bring out the best in every player, and I think we have some great players in the team who really enjoy moments like this,” John Herdman said after leading the training session.

The winner of the Indonesia-Malaysia match will solidify their position at the top of Group A. Only the group winner will advance to the final to compete for the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup title.
