Rahmat Erwin Dedicates Asian Games Gold to Family and Indonesia

RRI.CO.ID, Nagoya - Indonesian weightlifter Rahmat Erwin Abdullah dedicated his gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games to his family and the people of Indonesia. He won the men’s 75-kilogram event and also broke two world records.

He said his success at the Asian Games felt more special than at several other multi-sport events he had competed in. He said the Asian Games offered a unique experience after his previous appearances at the SEA Games.

“This one feels different because this is the biggest event. The last one was the SEA Games, and now it’s the Asian Games,” Rahmat said after the competition at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center on Saturday, 26 September 2026.

The 25-year-old weightlifter also felt a distinct atmosphere because he received direct support from his family, including his child. Having his family there made his journey at this year’s Asian Games even more special.

“What makes it different from the previous ones is that now I have my little one supporting me, so it feels different,” Rahmat said.

Rahmat dedicated his achievement to his child, wife, parents, and the people of Indonesia who have supported his career.

“It’s dedicated to my child, my wife, my parents back home, and also the people of Indonesia,” he said.

In the men’s 75-kilogram event, Rahmat recorded a total lift of 366 kilograms, consisting of 160 kilograms in the snatch and 206 kilograms in the clean and jerk. The performance also saw him break world records in the total lift and clean and jerk.

Thailand’s Weeraphon Wichuma won the silver medal with a total lift of 365 kilograms. Meanwhile, North Korea’s Chong Song Ri took the bronze with a total lift of 357 kilograms.
