Indonesia Claims Historic SEABA U17 3x3 Titles

RRI.CO.ID, Batam - Indonesia won both the men’s and women’s titles at the SEABA U17 3x3 Championship 2026 after the two national teams secured victories in their respective finals at HiTest Arena Batam on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

The Indonesian U17 men’s team secured the title after defeating Malaysia 20-11, while the women’s team overcame Thailand 21-8. The achievement marked a historic milestone, as Indonesia became champions in both categories for the first time since the tournament was first held in Singapore in 2025.

For the women’s team, this year’s title marked a successful defense of their championship from the inaugural edition. They maintained a perfect record, winning all six matches from the group stage through the final. Meanwhile, the men’s team improved on last year’s fourth-place finish by winning six of their seven matches.

Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PERBASI), Budisatrio Djiwandono, praised the players’ efforts and reminded them not to become complacent after winning the title.

“You were outstanding. Thank you for your hard work and for making Indonesia proud. However, this success should not make you forget that the journey is still long. There are still more championships ahead for us to conquer together,” Budisatrio said.

Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir also congratulated both teams. He said the achievement demonstrated the potential of Indonesian 3x3 basketball and expressed hope that youth development programs would continue to produce athletes capable of achieving success on the world stage.

“Congratulations to the Indonesian U17 men’s and women’s 3x3 teams for winning both SEABA U17 3x3 Championship 2026 titles. This is a proud achievement and shows that Indonesian 3x3 basketball has great potential to continue taking the country’s name to the world,” Erick stated.

Head coach of the Indonesian U17 men’s and women’s 3x3 teams, Wahyu Widayat Jati, said consistency was one of the keys to their success. He emphasized the importance of trusting the team’s system and staying focused on each game. “Consistency and trust the system. Focus on playing one game at a time, don’t be overconfident, and start from defense,” Wahyu said.

The SEABA U17 3x3 Championship 2026 was held on September 19-20 at HiTest Arena Batam. The second edition of the tournament featured six countries: hosts Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore.
