Sports Minister Hopes Teqball Medals Boost Indonesian Contingent

RRI.CO.ID, Nagoya - Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir hopes the efforts of teqball athletes Yoga Ardika and Sumaya will inspire the Indonesian contingent to win more medals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan.

Erick said the medals won by Indonesian athletes could serve as a momentum to maintain the motivation of athletes from other sports who are currently competing or are scheduled to compete. He hopes the fighting spirit will remain strong throughout the Games.

“I hope the efforts of Yoga, Sumaya, and the entire team will inspire the Indonesian contingent. We have already won several medals. Let’s open the way for more medals,” Erick said on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

According to Erick, hard work and determination are essential qualities that Indonesian athletes must continue to demonstrate in competition. He called on the entire contingent to maintain that spirit as they face their upcoming events.

“This is the spirit we must carry with us so that we can continue to achieve success,” he expressed.

As of Sunday, September 20, 2026, Indonesia had won five medals at the 2026 Asian Games, comprising one silver and four bronze medals. The silver medal was won by Sumaya in teqball.

The four bronze medals were secured by Seraf Naro Siregar in wushu, Yoga Ardika in teqball, the Indonesian men’s soft tennis team consisting of Fernando Sanger, Fahlevi Laluyan, Rizky, Bagus Pradewa, and Tio Hutauruk, and Leica Al Humaira Lubis in karate.
