Indonesia Climbers Secure Silver as Team Eyes Relay Consistency

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s speed climbing team continued to showcase its competitiveness on the international stage after the women’s speed relay pair of Raji’ah Sallsabillah and Kadek Adi Asih captured a silver medal at the World Climbing Series Chongqing 2026 in China.

The result underscored Indonesia’s strength in speed climbing, with the duo advancing to the final before finishing second behind the host nation’s team on Sunday, September 20, 2026. “The key to our success is consistency and always trying to give our best in every climb because nothing is impossible,” Raji’ah said after receiving her medal, as quoted by Antara.

The athlete, widely known as Billah, expressed gratitude for contributing a silver medal for Indonesia. She said she was ready to compete alongside any teammate in the speed relay discipline, believing that strong teamwork and maximum effort are essential to achieving positive results. “For me, who the partner is doesn’t matter. As long as we both perform at our best, we can achieve good results,” she said.

Her teammate, Kadek, credited the medal-winning performance to discipline and commitment to the training programs prepared by the coaching staff. However, she acknowledged that improvements are still needed. “I need to improve my focus during climbs so my mind doesn’t wander. I also need to be more consistent in training,” she said.

In the final, the Indonesian pair faced China’s Jingyue Fan and Shaoqin Zhang. Kadek recorded 6.7 seconds, while Billah posted 8.6 seconds, for a combined time of 15.3 seconds. The Chinese pair claimed gold with a combined time of 12.97 seconds after Fan clocked 6.43 seconds and Zhang finished in 6.54 seconds.

The final began as a closely contested race, but Indonesia’s challenge was affected when Billah, climbing second, briefly slipped and lost momentum.

The bronze medal went to Italy’s Giulla Randi and Beatrice Colli, who defeated France’s Louise Fountaine and Capucine Viglione.

Indonesia also competed in the men’s speed relay through Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi and Raharjati Nursamsa, but their campaign ended in the quarterfinals. The men’s relay title was won by Ukraine, while the United States and China claimed silver and bronze, respectively.

Beyond the relay events, Indonesia also fielded athletes in the men’s and women’s individual speed competitions as well as the mixed speed relay. However, Billah and Kadek's silver medal was Indonesia’s only podium finish in the series.

The result provides another encouraging sign for Indonesia’s speed climbing program, with athletes continuing to gain valuable international experience against some of the world’s leading competitors. ***
