Indonesia Adds Bronze Through Leica Lubis at the 2026 Asian Games

RRI.CO.ID, Nagoya - Indonesia’s medal tally at the 2026 Asian Games has increased. Karate athlete Leica Al Humaira Lubis secured a bronze medal in the women’s +68kg kumite event at the karate competition held at the Toyohashi Gymnasium in Aichi, Japan, on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

As reported by Antara, the 22‑year‑old athlete defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Begimai Orozalieva with a decisive 6–1 score in the bronze medal match.

This achievement marks a successful Asian Games debut for Leica. She previously debuted at the 2025 SEA Games in the same event, where she won a gold medal.

At these Asian Games, Leica had a chance to win silver; however, the North Sumatra native’s run ended in the semifinals after a narrow 3–4 loss to Thailand’s Maneevan Butsuwan. Maneevan ultimately claimed the silver medal after losing 0–8 to Kazakhstan’s Sofya Berultseva in the final.

Two other Indonesian karatekas competing on Sunday failed to secure medals. Marzella Sekar Damayanti was eliminated in the Round of 16 of the women’s individual kata event, losing 1–4 to Taiwan’s Hui‑hsuan.

In the men’s –55kg kumite event, Muhammad Tegar Januar lost 1–6 to Kazakhstan’s Zholaman Bigabyl in the semifinals, sending him to the bronze medal match against Tajikistan’s Makhsatullo Muminov. In that deciding bout, Tegar was defeated 0–8. ***
