RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia added to its medal tally at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026, with soft tennis contributing a bronze medal in the men’s team event.
The medal is Indonesia’s third at the Games, following bronze medals previously won in wushu and teqball, according to Antara. Indonesia secured the bronze after advancing to the semifinals.
The Indonesian men’s team ended its run with a 0–2 loss to host nation Japan at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center in Nagoya on Sunday, September 20, 2026. The defeat meant Indonesia had to settle for bronze.
In the opening match, Indonesia fielded the doubles pair Tio Hutauruk and Fernando Sanger against Takuya Kurosaka and Takafumi Uchimoto. The Japanese pair immediately took control and built a lead Indonesia could not overcome.
Tio and Fernando won only one of the six games played, securing the fourth game, but it was not enough to change the outcome.
Indonesia also failed to win the second match, which featured singles play. Bagus Pradewa faced Toshiki Uematsu and could not win any of the four games contested.
The loss sent Japan to the final and ended Indonesia’s campaign in the men’s team event. Nevertheless, soft tennis still contributed a medal to the Indonesian contingent at the 2026 Asian Games.
Indonesia remains in contention for additional medals on Sunday afternoon. Sumaya is set to compete in the women’s singles teqball event, with a chance to deliver Indonesia’s first gold medal at the Aichi–Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. ***
