RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - For Mediol Stiovanny Yoku, a young volleyball player from Papua, her debut at the Asian Games Aichi‑Nagoya 2026 is more than just a sporting milestone -- it is a moment of national pride reinforced by direct encouragement from President Prabowo Subianto.
The Jayapura‑born athlete, now part of Indonesia’s women’s national volleyball team, expressed gratitude after attending the official send‑off ceremony at the State Palace.
“We were given so much spirit and guidance by the President, reminding us to keep fighting and never give up,” Mediol said in a statement released by the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) RI on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
While the Asian Games marks her first appearance on Asia’s biggest sporting stage, Mediol views the opportunity as both a personal challenge and a chance to honor her country. “I’m happy. This is my first Asian Games, and I hope the President can also see our performance,” she added.
Her motivation has grown stronger since receiving the President’s message. For Mediol, the principle of perseverance is central. “Whatever happens during the match, whatever the conditions, whatever the result, the most important thing is that we fight until the very end," she emphasized.
In preparation, the 23‑year‑old has intensified her training, focusing on physical conditioning and mental readiness to ensure she can perform at her best. She sees the Asian Games not only as a competition for medals but also as a platform to measure Indonesia’s women’s volleyball against Asia’s strongest teams.
Mediol hopes her debut will inspire her teammates to maintain high spirits and deliver their best throughout the tournament. “Let’s keep the spirit alive so we can show our best at the Asian Games,” she concluded. ***
