RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian BMX racer Amellya Nur Sifa is banking on her familiarity with the Nagoya Velodrome BMX Race Course as she prepares to defend her gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan.
“Target is clear: keeping the gold,” Amellya said in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The reigning women’s BMX racing champion has been in training since February, with camps in Banyuwangi and Jakarta. She noted that the Asian Games track presents a tougher challenge than the course used at the Asian BMX Racing Championships 2026 in Malaysia, describing Nagoya’s layout as more technical compared to Malaysia’s pedal‑heavy design.
Amellya’s confidence stems from her prior experience at the Asian BMX Racing Championships 2025, held at the same Nagoya venue, where she finished second in the Women U23 category. The velodrome, opened in August 2025, features a 330‑meter track with a five‑meter start hill.
For the final stage of preparation, the 23‑year‑old athlete is focusing on maintaining peak performance and strengthening her mental readiness. Her last test run came at the Malaysia championships in August, where she placed fourth in the Women Elite, while teammate Jasmine Azzahra Setyobudi secured gold in Women U23.
At the upcoming Asian Games, Amellya and Jasmine will again lead Indonesia’s women’s BMX squad. Both contributed medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games, with Amellya clinching gold and Jasmine bronze.
Indonesia will also field Rio Akbar and Fasya Ahsana Rifki in the men’s BMX racing, part of a 21‑athlete cycling contingent competing across six disciplines. BMX racing events are scheduled for September 28, 2026, at the Nagoya Velodrome BMX Race Course. ***
