Indonesian Young Dancers Dominate Podium at SummerWeek 47 in Germany

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian young street dancers showcased their growing international potential by securing both the title and runner-up positions in the 2v2 Kids Openstyle Battle at SummerWeek 47 in Krefeld, Germany.

The two pairs from Team Power of Lock defeated dancers from various countries before meeting in an all-Indonesian final, securing the top two positions in the prestigious street dance competition.

“At an event of that scale, seeing two teams from Indonesia defeat dancers from various countries and both reach the final was a very valuable moment for us,” street dancer Alexandra Xiomara Lauralee, also known as Axl Suryabara, said on Tuesday, August 25, as quoted by Antara.

Daysha Aliyana Tiawarman (14) and Shayna Chloe Tiawarman (13) won the title, while Sebastian Thanandra (16) and Axl Suryabara (15) finished as runners-up.

The achievement was particularly significant as the final featured two Indonesian pairs who are both members of the Power of Lock crew.

Axl Suryabara said competing in Germany offered a different experience from the competitions they usually participate in, as it brought them together with dancers from various countries.

“Of course, it was a different level. Being able to compete and meet dancers from various countries was a very valuable experience for Sebastian and me,” Axl added.

According to Axl, the achievement was the result of consistent training. He and Sebastian have been members of the same crew for nearly 10 years and began partnering in the 2v2 battle format about two years ago.

They also trained alongside their school activities. Axl usually went straight to the studio after school, training from around 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. about five times a week.

The training was not only focused on battles but also on various dance competitions with Power of Lock. “The training is not only for battles, but also for dance competitions with our team, Power of Lock. So training has become part of our routine,” Axl continued.

Indonesia's podium sweep became even more special because the two pairs competing in the final have a close relationship as fellow crew members. After the battle, all four dancers continued to celebrate together despite having just competed against each other.

“After the battle, we still hugged, cried, and danced together. In the end, we are not just competitors, but family,” Axl emphasized, expressing hope that the achievement can show that Indonesian dancers have the ability to compete and achieve success on the international stage.

“I am happy to show that Indonesian dancers can also compete at the international level. Hopefully, this experience can prove that Indonesian dancers deserve to be taken seriously and can represent Indonesia in international events,” Axl concluded.

After SummerWeek 47, Axl and his teammates will resume preparations for several major competitions in Indonesia and overseas throughout the year.

As a dancesport athlete from South Tangerang under the Indonesian Dancesport Association (IODI) South Tangerang and a member of Power of Lock under O2 Dance School, Axl is determined to maintain his training consistency and continue improving to bring further achievements to Indonesia at various competitions. ***
