RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian women single shuttler Putri Kusuma Wardani saw her bid to defend her BWF World Championships medal end in the last 16 after pressure and unforced errors contributed to a straight-game defeat by Denmark’s Line Christophersen on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
The sixth-seeded Putri lost 18-21, 17-21 to Christophersen at the 2026 BWF World Championships in New Delhi, India.
“I am very disappointed with my performance today because I played under pressure, even though I was not thinking too far ahead about the result,” Putri said, Thursday, as quoted on the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) official website.
Putri struggled to find openings to build her attacks as Christophersen controlled the front court and consistently took the initiative to attack, Antara reported.
“Line really controlled the shots at the front and kept looking for opportunities to attack, which is her strength. I also made too many unforced errors and found it difficult to find open spaces on her court,” Putri said.
The result ended Putri’s hopes of repeating her performance at the 2025 BWF World Championships in Paris, where she won a bronze medal. At last year’s edition, Putri reached the semifinals before losing to Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in a three-game battle, 17-21, 21-14, 6-21.
The defeat in New Delhi also reversed Putri’s most recent result against Christophersen. Putri had beaten the Danish player 21-12, 21-15 in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Uber Cup in Horsens, Denmark, in April. ***
