RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian rising star Renaldi Aquila Salim may have bowed out in the group stage of the UTR Pro Tennis Tour (PTT) Amman Men’s World Championship 2026, but the 20‑year‑old collected valuable lessons from competing against higher‑ranked opponents.
Playing at the Bali Beach Country Club, Nusa Dua, on Thursday, August 20, Renaldi fell to Australia’s Thomas Patton 1‑6, 2‑6 in a one‑hour, 14‑minute match. Patton’s powerful serve and precise groundstrokes kept Renaldi under constant pressure, despite the Indonesian’s attempts to adjust his strategy.
“My opponent played smart and aggressively from the start, which made it difficult for me to escape the pressure even though I tried to change my patterns and tactics,” Renaldi said in a statement, as quoted by Antara.
Patton, who had lost to Nathan Barki earlier, attacked Renaldi’s backhand relentlessly to dominate the first set 6‑1. The same intensity carried into the second set, where Renaldi’s adjustments were not enough to halt Patton’s consistency.
The result left Renaldi fourth in Group D, while Patton secured runner‑up and advanced to the playoff for positions 5–8. At the top of the group, American Azuma Visaya remained unbeaten after defeating Singapore’s Maximus Zavier Wong 6‑3, 6‑0, joining compatriot Alexander Chang and Indonesia’s Anthony Susanto in the semifinals with perfect records.
Elsewhere, France’s Matthieu Perchicot clinched Group C supremacy after edging Australia’s Jack Bruce Smith 6‑4, 7‑6(3) in a tight contest between previously unbeaten players. ***
