RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s mixed doubles pair Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah are setting their sights on a medal in their first-ever appearance at the BWF World Championships 2026, after advancing to the round of 16 in New Delhi on Wednesday, 19 August, 2026.
The duo progressed with a convincing straight-game victory over Turkey’s Emre Sonmez and Yasemen Bektas, 21–14, 21–10. “This is our first World Championships, and not every player gets this opportunity," Amri said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), as quoted by Antara.
"That’s why we are determined to make the most of it. Hopefully, we can achieve the best result and bring home a medal. That’s our target,” Amri added.
From the outset, Amri and Nita controlled the match with tactical adjustments tailored to their opponents. Nita noted the resilience of the Turkish pair’s defense. “Their defense was strong, so we had to build attacks patiently to score points,” she explained.
The opening game required adaptation as the Indonesians played against the wind. “In the first game we were at a disadvantage with the wind, so we tried to be patient and hold the rally until they struggled. In the second game it was more comfortable because we had the wind advantage,” Nita said.
Amri added that the three-day break before their first match provided valuable preparation time. “We had enough time to prepare everything, from recovery and court adjustment to regaining focus,” he remarked.
Their disciplined approach reflects Indonesia’s broader strength in badminton, where mental readiness and tactical flexibility are as crucial as technical skill. With momentum on their side, Amri and Nita now aim to continue their breakthrough run and prove themselves as medal contenders in their debut campaign. ***
