RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has strengthened its sports diplomacy with Hungary through a new partnership in horseback archery, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Budapest.

The agreement was signed between the Nemethy Horseback Archery Sport Association and the Indonesian National Federation of Horseback Archery (FN.PBM) at the Indonesian Embassy in Hungary on Monday, August 17, 2026.

FN.PBM was represented by Chairperson Triwatty Marciano, while Nemethy was represented by Christoph Arpad Nemethy. The ceremony was witnessed by Indonesian Ambassador to Hungary, Penny Dewi Herasati, and appreciated by Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Marciano Norman.

Marciano praised the initiative, noting that organizational transformation has enabled FN.PBM to pursue international cooperation. “This collaboration proves the importance of strengthening federations so they can build partnerships abroad,” he said.

The cooperation aims to improve Indonesia’s horseback archery through technical standards, training, and regulations. It follows earlier discussions at the IHAA Forum in March 2026 and is expected to support the sport’s inclusion in future multi‑event competitions.

Ambassador Penny highlighted the cultural significance of the partnership, pointing out that horseback archery has deep historical roots in both Indonesia and Hungary. “This shared heritage allows the sport to connect communities while preserving tradition in a modern context,” she said.

The MoU outlines three pillars: knowledge exchange, athlete development, and cultural synergy--covering training methodologies, capacity building for athletes and coaches, and strengthening Indonesia-Hungary relations through sport.

The Indonesian Embassy in Budapest reaffirmed its commitment to act as a bridge for future programs and exchanges, underscoring the role of horseback archery as both a competitive sport and a channel of cultural diplomacy. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
