Celebrating 81 Years of Independence, Merdeka Run 2026 Tickets Sold Out in Two Hours

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The enthusiasm of the public to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence thru the Merdeka Run 2026 event received a warm welcome. Tickets to participate in the running event were sold out within just two hours after registration officially opened on Tuesday, August 12, 2026) at 5:00 PM WIB.

Merdeka Run 2026 will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, covering a distance of eight kilometers and starting from the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. The high public interest shows that running is increasingly popular as part of a lifestyle and a means to celebrate the moment of independence.

The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia, Erick Thohir, appreciated the enthusiasm of the public who participated in the Merdeka Run 2026. According to him, the high interest of the participants shows the community's spirit to exercise while also celebrating 81 years of Indonesia's Independence.

"Thank you to all the Indonesian people who were so enthusiastic in welcoming the Merdeka Run. Tickets sold out within just two hours since registration opened." This shows the community's enthusiasm for exercising while also celebrating the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence Day is truly remarkable," Erick said, Tuesday, August 12, 2026.

He said that the Merdeka Run is not only aimed at increasing public interest in sports. The event is also expected to be a space for the community to gather and celebrate independence with joy, togetherness, and a spirit of unity.

"Merdeka Run is not just about running. This is our moment to celebrate independence together with joy, a spirit of togetherness, and unity. We want sports to be a part of people's lives and also a space to strengthen brotherhood," he explained.

In addition to sports activities, Merdeka Run 2026 will feature various entertainment and involve Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The involvement of MSMEs is expected to have an economic impact and encourage business turnover within the community.
