PBVSI Evaluated Women’s National Team After SEA V Women’s Cup Bronze

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Volleyball Association (PBVSI) has praised the women’s national team for retaining their bronze‑medal finish at the 2026 SEA V Women’s Cup. Yet the result fell short of expectations, as Indonesia had been projected to finish as runners‑up.

PBVSI Deputy Chairman for Development and Achievement, Loudry Maspaitella, said the team’s performance showed progress. In the first leg, Indonesia finished third and managed to defeat the Philippines.

In the second leg, Indonesia secured an important victory over Vietnam in a dramatic match. However, Indonesia then lost to the Philippines in the final match and finished third again.

“Overall, we appreciate the third-place achievement, although it did not meet our target of finishing as runners-up,” Loudry told RRI on Monday, August 10, 2026.

According to him, the SEA V Cup is an important platform for increasing competition among Southeast Asian volleyball teams. “With the SEA V Cup, the balance of power in Southeast Asian volleyball has become more evenly matched and is no longer dominated only by Thailand,” he said.

However, Loudry regretted that the women’s volleyball team had yet to show consistent performances. He said the issue was influenced by non-technical factors.

“When we defeated Vietnam, we were in high spirits. That euphoria instead became a boomerang when we faced the Philippines, which had strong motivation to win,” said the former national volleyball player.

For its next event, the AVC Women’s Continental Championship in China, PBVSI has set a target of reaching the top eight. The target takes into account the increasing quality of opponents, including Japan and China, which could make the competition more challenging.

Loudry said an evaluation would also be conducted, including the player composition for competition at the Asian level. PBVSI plans to give U-21 and U-18 players experience by including them in the senior squad. (Diffa Sephiawardani)
