RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Highlighting the growing presence of Indonesian Islamic school students on the global science stage, Faris Chariansyah of state-run Islamic senior high school MAN Insan Cendekia Serpong secured a bronze medal at the International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) 2026 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, held August 2–9.
MAN IC Serpong principal Hilal Najmi praised the achievement of the 29th-cohort student, noting it reflects the school’s commitment to nurturing scientific curiosity and critical thinking beyond competition.
“This success proves that madrasah (Islamic school) students can compete internationally in science. More importantly, it shows how education fosters inquiry, courage, and a passion for knowledge,” he said, as quoted on the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs' official website.
Faris’s journey to INSO followed a rigorous path: he previously won gold at the 2025 Indonesian Madrasah Olympiad (OMI) in Integrated Physics, then advanced through national selections involving medalists from the Physics and Chemistry Olympiads.
He joined fellow delegate Hilmy Lazuardhy Nurramadhan in representing Indonesia among participants from 19 countries.
The Olympiad tested students through theory and experimental challenges in nuclear science and technology. While Hilmy did not secure a medal, Hilal emphasized pride in his effort, calling the international experience itself a valuable milestone.
“Keep up the spirit, keep learning, and never stop progressing, because there are still many opportunities to achieve success in the future,” Hilal Najmi said. ***
