Indonesian Taekwondo Chair Hails Medal Haul at Asian Open 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Taekwondo Board of Executives (PBTI) Lt. Gen. Richard Tampubolon praised Indonesia's athletes for combining competitive success with world‑class hosting at the 8th Asian Taekwondo Indonesia Open Championships 2026 in Jakarta.

In a statement released on Sunday, August 9, 2026, PBTI announced that Indonesia topped the medal table with 28 medals—five gold, four silver, and 17 bronze medals—at the World Taekwondo (WT) G2 event held August 1–5 at Tennis Indoor, Gelora Bung Karno.

The strong showing placed the host nation ahead of the Philippines in second and Australia in third.

Richard emphasized that the championships proved Indonesia’s ability to stage events of global standard while laying the foundation for Olympic ambitions, Antara reported.

He expressed gratitude to TNI Commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto and extended appreciation to athletes, coaches, officials, provincial boards, organizers, sponsors, and all contributors to the tournament’s success.

The competition drew 531 athletes from 36 countries and served as a key qualification pathway for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. ***
