RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia is highlighting its growing partnership with FIFA as a blueprint for how global football governance can directly support national progress.

The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) reaffirmed its backing for Gianni Infantino’s leadership ahead of the FIFA Congress in Morocco on March 18, 2027, citing the tangible impact of FIFA programs in the country.

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir stressed that FIFA under Infantino has acted not only as a regulator but as a strategic partner. “For Indonesia, FIFA under Gianni Infantino is not just a global governing body, but a real partner in developing our football,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Indonesia has benefited from several landmark initiatives. Among them is the construction of the National Training Centre (NTC) in the country's new capital IKN, funded with USD 5.4 million through FIFA Forward. Covering 34.5 hectares, the facility represents a cornerstone for long-term player development.

Jakarta has also been designated as a FIFA Hub for Southeast and East Asia, serving 21 member associations. This move, formalized in 2025, reflects Infantino’s vision of decentralizing football growth worldwide.

In addition, grassroots programs such as the FIFA Talent Development Scheme, Football for Schools, and the FIFA Arena initiative -- which builds mini-pitches across Indonesia -- have reinforced the country’s football ecosystem.

Erick acknowledged that these efforts have accelerated Indonesia’s progress. “Without FIFA’s support, the leaps we have achieved today would have been difficult to realize,” he noted.

As the election for FIFA’s next presidential term approaches, PSSI has confirmed its full support for Infantino, joining a broad coalition of federations across Africa, Asia, and South America.

“PSSI is ready to continue working constructively with FIFA and all member associations to advance football development worldwide, ensuring that the inclusive vision of global football continues,” Erick concluded.
