RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia will field two rising athletes at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on August 5–9, showcasing emerging talent and giving its next generation of sprinters valuable global experience.

“Participation was confirmed after both athletes successfully met the World Athletics qualifying standards during the 2026 National Athletics Championships and Indonesia U18 Open Championships in Jakarta from June 27 to 30, 2026,” the Indonesian Athletics Association (PASI) stated on Tuesday, August 4, as quoted by Antara.

Eighteen-year-old Hoshi will compete in the women’s 200-meter event. The East Java sprinter earned her ticket to Oregon after clocking 24.35 seconds with a legal wind reading of +1.3 m/s at Rawamangun Athletics Stadium in Jakarta on June 29, matching the qualifying standard set by World Athletics.

Meanwhile, fellow 18-year-old Anugrah will race in the men’s 110-meter hurdles (99 cm). He qualified after posting 13.89 seconds with a +1.2 m/s wind reading at the same venue on June 30, beating the qualification standard of 14.05 seconds by 0.16 seconds.

Both athletes have officially been included on the World Athletics entry list for the championships.

Another Indonesian sprinter, Shava Salvia Waranggani from Central Java, narrowly missed qualification despite running 11.77 seconds in the women’s 100 meters. Although her time was faster than the qualifying standard of 11.78 seconds, it was recorded with a +2.3 m/s tailwind.

Under World Athletics regulations, sprint performances are only valid for records and qualification if the tailwind does not exceed +2.0 m/s, meaning Shava’s result could not be recognized for qualification and she was not included in Indonesia’s final squad.

The 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships marks the tournament’s 21st edition and the second time it has been hosted in Oregon since 2014. More than 1,800 athletes from 147 World Athletics member federations are expected to compete.

PASI said the Indonesian team is scheduled to depart for Oregon on August 5, with Hoshi and Anugrah set to begin their campaigns on August 7 local time. ***
