RRI.CO.ID, Chonburi - Indonesia's defender Shayne Pattynama is confident the Garuda squad can maintain its positive momentum when facing Vietnam in their next Group A match of the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup, saying that the victory over Timor-Leste has boosted the confidence of the entire team.
Shayne acknowledged that Vietnam is one of the tournament's strongest teams and has performed well throughout the competition. However, he stressed that Indonesia has full confidence in its own ability to secure a positive result.
"We know Vietnam is a good team. They have been playing well and have a lot of confidence. We know that and we have seen it," Shayne said during the post-match press conference at Chonburi Stadium, Thailand, on Friday, July 31, 2026.
The 27-year-old defender insisted Indonesia is not intimidated by Vietnam's quality. He said every player is ready to deliver their best performance against one of Group A's main contenders.
"But with the way we play, we believe in our own ability. We are full of confidence going into the next match against Vietnam to show what we can do," he said.
Shayne added that Indonesia will benefit from playing in front of its home supporters. He also noted that keeping a clean sheet against Timor-Leste further strengthened the team's confidence.
"We're playing at home, so we know what we have to do. It's great that we won this match and kept a clean sheet. That gives us a very important confidence boost," he continued.
He added that the players will immediately begin preparations as the recovery period before the next match is short. Shayne hopes Indonesia can maintain its positive form and secure another strong result against Vietnam.
The victory moved Indonesia to the top of the Group A standings with six points from two matches. The Garuda will next face Vietnam at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor Regency on Monday, August 3, 2026. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
