RRI.CO.ID, Semarang - The Ministry of Youth and Sports is strengthening inclusive sports development thru training for disability sports activists in Semarang City, Central Java, on July 25-26, 2026. The Training of Trainers (ToT) for Disability Sports Activists is a government initiative to expand access and increase the participation of people with disabilities in sports activities.

The event was attended by 115 participants from the Central Java National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and Special Olympics Indonesia (SOIna). The training was opened by the Senior Policy Analyst at the Deputy for Sports Cultivation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dwijayanto Sarosa Putera.

Dwijayanto said that the level of sports participation among people with disabilities in Indonesia is still relatively low, at around 11.6 percent. According to him, this condition is not due to a lack of interest, but rather the limited access, disability-friendly facilities, and the availability of coaches with inclusive competencies.

"The facts on the ground show that the low participation is not because our friends with disabilities do not want to exercise, but rather due to limited access, a lack of disability-friendly facilities, and the scarcity of trainers with inclusive competencies," Dwijayanto said in a written statement, Sunday, July 26, 2026.

He hopes that the ToT participants will not only be recipients of the training materials but also be able to become movers, talent scouts, and agents of change in their respective communities to discover outstanding disability sports talents.

During the two-day event, participants received training on the development of disability sports thru the delivery of materials, direct sports practice, and evaluations to measure participants' understanding and competence.

Head of the Sports Cultivation Division of the Central Java Provincial Youth and Sports Office, Anton Asfihani, appreciated the activity as a strategic step in strengthening the disability sports ecosystem in Indonesia, especially in Central Java.

"The implementation of this Training of Trainers is a strategic agenda to maintain the sustainability of disability sports development in Indonesia. We hope this program will have a significant impact on disability sports, especially in the Central Java region," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Organization Sector of NPCI Central Java, Slamet Widodo, considers the ToT program to be a tangible form of government support in enhancing opportunities for people with disabilities to develop thru sports.

Thru this training, the Ministry hopes that there will be disability sports activists in various regions who can expand community participation while also discovering potential athlete talents. This program is expected to create a sustainable effect in building an inclusive sports ecosystem in Indonesia.
