RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri believe their victory at the China Open 2026 can serve as a turning point for the resurgence of the nation’s men’s doubles badminton.

The duo defended their title for the second consecutive year after overcoming world No. 1 pair Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae of South Korea in a tense three-game final, 16–21, 21–19, 21–19, at the Olympic Sports Center in Changzhou on Sunday, July 26.

Fajar described the win as both a blessing and the result of hard work. “We hope this becomes momentum for men’s doubles to rise again, motivating our juniors to chase and match our ranking so Indonesia can have three, four, even five pairs competing at the top level,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

The match demanded immense stamina, with the Koreans pushing at a relentless pace. Fajar credited his partner for covering crucial areas of the court.

“They played all-out, very different from last week. I’m grateful to Fikri for closing off the gaps,” he added, referring to their Japan Open victory just a week earlier.

Fikri emphasized that the win in this Super 1000 tournament should fuel their confidence heading into the remaining BWF calendar, including the upcoming World Championships. “Once we return home, we’ll immediately begin intensive preparation,” he concluded.

Beyond the trophy, the triumph symbolizes Indonesia’s broader ambition to restore its dominance in men’s doubles, a discipline long regarded as the country’s stronghold. With Fajar/Fikri leading the way, the hope is that younger pairs will follow suit, ensuring Indonesia remains a formidable force on the global stage. ***
