RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s future in competitive climbing received a major boost when Haddan Malik Baqmuhyibar clinched silver in the U19 men’s speed event at the World Climbing Youth Championship 2026 in Arco, Italy, on July 22, 2026. His podium finish marks Indonesia’s first-ever medal at the prestigious youth championship, underscoring the country’s successful regeneration in the sport.
Head coach Galar Pandu Asmoro praised Haddan’s achievement as a breakthrough moment. “This is the first time Indonesia has reached the podium at the World Youth Championship, and Haddan’s silver proves our regeneration process is moving in the right direction,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
Haddan clocked 6.21 seconds in the final, narrowly behind China’s Yanze Shi (6.07). Despite a slight slip near the finish, Haddan’s performance remained close to his best training times, which average around 5.152 seconds.
Galar emphasized that Haddan’s consistency throughout the tournament reflects Indonesia’s growing depth in youth climbing. “His fight shows our young athletes have the quality to compete at the world level. This should be the beginning of Haddan’s journey on the international stage,” he noted.
Indonesia sent two athletes to Arco: Haddan in speed and Ardana Cikal Damarwulan, who competed in lead and boulder. Cikal also made history by reaching the U17 boulder final, further proving Indonesia’s ability to compete across multiple disciplines.
Together, Haddan’s silver and Cikal’s breakthrough final appearance highlight Indonesia’s expanding footprint in global climbing. More than medals, these results signal a new generation ready to carry the Red-and-White flag into the sport’s future. ***
